Calosso Day
A spring tasting day devoted to Calosso DOC, the red made from the rare Gamba di Pernice grape: the denomination's producers pour more than ten vintages on the terrace of the village's municipal enoteca, Crota 'd Calos, with cheese and local food.
Why it's special
Calosso DOC is one of Italy's smallest denominations, allowed only in Calosso, Castagnole delle Lanze and Costigliole d'Asti, and its grape, Gamba di Pernice ('partridge's leg'), is hard to find anywhere else. Here a dozen or so of its producers pour side by side, back through more than ten vintages, so you can taste how the wine ages.
Programme · 2025
3rd edition, 'Alla scoperta del Gamba di Pernice', 15 years after the Calosso DOC was created.
- In 2025 entry was €20 (€15 for AIS, FISAR and ONAV members), with a glass, tasting pouch and one food ticket.
- Booking was recommended (info@calossodoc.it) and payment taken on the day.
- In bad weather it moves indoors into the rooms of the Crota 'd Calos enoteca.
- No 2026 edition had been announced on calossodoc.it as of October 2026, so check there in spring.
Calosso Day is the showcase for the village's own wine. Calosso DOC is a red made almost entirely from Gamba di Pernice, an old local grape. Production is limited to Calosso and two neighbouring comuni, Castagnole delle Lanze and Costigliole d'Asti.
For one Sunday in spring the producers set up on the terrace of the Crota 'd Calos, the municipal enoteca, and pour their Calosso DOC across more than ten vintages. Cheesemakers and local food producers bring something to eat alongside. It's a rare chance to compare a dozen versions of a wine made in such small quantities.
The Fiera del Rapulé in October is the other big occasion to taste Calosso's wines in one place. See what else is on in Calosso.
