Festa del Cristo — Alessandria
The patronal festa of the Cristo, the Alessandria quarter south of the centre: some eleven days of early-October events between Piazza Zanzi, Via Maggioli and Piazza Campora, ending with the grand fair along Corso Acqui on the final Sunday.
Why it's special
It's a neighbourhood festa on a city scale: the parish procession of San Giovanni Evangelista, a street festa in Via Maggioli, a regional food village, a luna park and a full day of fair stalls, music and vintage cars in Corso Acqui, all organised by the quarter's own associations.
Programme · 2026
Eleven days of culture, music, sport and tradition across the Cristo quarter (Piazzale Unes, Piazza Zanzi, Via Maggioli, Via Campi, Piazza Campora, Via Carlo Alberto), with a luna park.
- The big day is the final Sunday: the fair opens at 10:00 in Corso Acqui and runs into the evening, with a concert to close.
- The quarter is south of the centre; on fair day Corso Acqui is given over to stalls, so arrive on foot or by bike.
The Cristo is the quarter south of Alessandria's centre, and every October it throws its own patronal festa. The Festa del Cristo runs for about ten days at the start of the month, organised by the quarter's associations with the comune, and moves between its squares: Piazza Zanzi, Via Maggioli, Piazza Campora and the parish of San Giovanni Evangelista, whose Saturday mass and procession are the religious heart of it.
The rest is a proper neighbourhood fair: a street festa in Via Maggioli with hobby stalls and vintage tractors, exhibitions on the quarter's history and on the Grigi, the city's football club, a luna park, and in 2026 a three-day Sardinian food-and-folk village. It all builds to the final Sunday, when stalls fill Corso Acqui from 10:00, the Bersaglieri band marches through in the afternoon, and a concert closes the night.
It's a local festa rather than a tourist event, but it's the liveliest way to see an ordinary Alessandria quarter in full voice. More on the city at Alessandria.
