Festa Patronale del Quartino e Fiera del Bestiame

The patronal festival of the Quartino district of Calamandrana closes each year with the Fiera del Bestiame, a historic livestock fair held on the first Monday of August — one of the oldest cattle fairs in the Belbo valley.

Why it's special

It's still a working farmers' fair — Piedmontese breeders bring their cattle down into the valley — wrapped in a village patronal feast: several evenings of food and wine, music, entertainment and a Sunday hill walk.

  • It all happens at the Quartino in Calamandrana — in 2024 on the sports-ground piazzale in Via Avalle.
  • The evenings before the fair bring communal dinners, live music and games, and some years a Sunday hill walk or Vespa rally; come Monday morning (from about 08:00) for the livestock fair itself.

The Festa Patronale del Quartino is the feast of the Quartino, a district of Calamandrana in the Belbo valley, and it builds each year to the Fiera del Bestiame — a historic livestock fair that still brings Piedmontese cattle breeders together in the valley on the first Monday of August. It's one of the traditional farming fairs of the Barbera d'Asti and Nizza DOCG hills, promoting local zootechnics alongside the region's wine and food.

Around the fair the village lays on its patronal festival: several evenings of food-and-wine dinners, live music and entertainment at the Quartino, plus a 'camminata in collina' walk through the hills on the Sunday before. The livestock fair itself takes place on the Monday morning.
