Fiera Regionale del Tartufo Bianco in Valle Ghenza
Cella Monte's white-truffle fair, held on the first weekend of November since the early 1990s: truffles from the Valle Ghenza weighed and judged, lunches and dinners in a heated marquee, a market, guided truffle hunts and visits to the village's UNESCO-listed infernot.
Why it's special
The Valle Ghenza is the small valley shared by Cella Monte, Rosignano and Frassinello, and its trifulau bring their best white truffles to the fair to be weighed and judged, with prizes for the best single truffle and the best group. It is a village fair run by the Comune, and the extras are local too: talks at the Ecomuseo della Pietra da Cantoni, simulated truffle hunts with dogs in a controlled truffle ground, and guided visits to the infernot, the small cellars carved into the sandstone under Cella Monte's houses.
Programme · 2026
34th edition, organised by the Comune di Cella Monte, in the area of Regione Sardegna, Piazza Vallino and Via Dante Barbano. The detailed programme was still being prepared on 2026-10-20.
- Cella Monte is a small hill village about 4 km from Rosignano, so park outside the centre if you can.
- The meals in the heated marquee in Regione Sardegna get busy: in 2021 the food ran out at Sunday lunch, and in 2022 the 600 seats could not be booked for the Friday dinner.
- Go early.
- The guided truffle hunts, trekking and e-bike tours are paid and have needed booking in past years, and the truffle grounds are muddy, so wear boots.

Cella Monte is a hill village of sandstone houses in the Monferrato Casalese, a few kilometres from Rosignano Monferrato. On the first weekend of November it holds its white-truffle fair, named after the Valle Ghenza, the small valley below that it shares with Rosignano and Frassinello. The Comune organises it (the Pro Loco cooked for it for many years and was back on the poster in 2024), and it has been going since the early 1990s; since 2017 it has carried the title of a regional fair.
The fair is built around the truffles themselves. The local trifulau bring in their finds, the best ones are presented and weighed in the marquee, and the Comune gives prizes for the best single truffle and the best group. Around that there are tasting stalls and fresh truffles for sale, a market of local food and crafts along Via Dante Barbano, and lunches and dinners in a heated marquee in Regione Sardegna, with truffle on the menu.
Cella Monte also has some of the best-known infernot in the Monferrato, small cellars dug into the soft sandstone under the houses and listed by UNESCO with the wine landscapes of Piedmont. During the fair there are guided visits to them, and the Ecomuseo della Pietra da Cantoni in Palazzo Volta usually hosts a talk on truffles or the land. Most years there are guided truffle hunts with the trifulau and their dogs in a controlled truffle ground, and some years have added street theatre, DJ sets, e-bike tours and a treasure hunt for children.
The full programme comes out a few weeks before the fair, on the Comune's website. Book the paid activities early, and bring boots if you join a truffle hunt.
