Fiera Regionale del Tartufo di Castelnuovo Don Bosco
Castelnuovo Don Bosco's late-November truffle fair: a white-truffle show and competition in Piazza Don Bosco, a market of local food and crafts through the centre, a Pro Loco truffle dinner and lunch, and the old Fiera di Sant'Andrea market the day after.
Why it's special
A late-season white-truffle fair in the hills between Asti and Turin. Local trifulau bring their best finds to be judged in Piazza Don Bosco, the Pro Loco cooks, and the 'paese dei Santi' adds open churches, vintage tractors and street music, then holds its traditional Sant'Andrea market on the Monday.

- The truffle show and judging are in Piazza Don Bosco, with the awards around noon after the 11:00 Mass.

Castelnuovo Don Bosco, the hill town between Asti and Turin where Saint John Bosco was born, holds its truffle fair at the end of November. It has run for more than thirty years. Local trifulau bring their truffles to Piazza Don Bosco to be weighed and judged, and the best single truffles and plates are awarded at midday.
Around the judging the centre turns into a market of truffles, wine, cheeses, salumi, honey and sweets, with crafts stalls along Via Roma and the squares. The Pro Loco cooks a truffle dinner on the Saturday night and a lunch on the Sunday. There is usually something for children, from games and workshops to circus acts, and old tractors and cars are lined up for show. The churches of the old town are open, and in some years there has been a walk in the woods with a truffle hunter.
The fair ends with the Fiera di Sant'Andrea, the town's traditional market, held on the Monday. The year's dates are above.
