Gran Fritto Misto della Pro Loco di Calosso
A carnival Sunday lunch in February when the Pro Loco di Calosso serves the Piedmontese gran fritto misto, the sweet-and-savoury mixed fry, with peppers in bagna càuda to start and local wine.
Why it's special
The fritto misto alla piemontese, a long platter of fried meats, vegetables, semolina and amaretti, is a winter dish that few restaurants still make properly. Here it comes from the village volunteers, at a shared table in the salone comunale.
Programme · 2026
- Booking is required: in 2026 it was by phone to Teresa, +39 333 1185425, and the menu cost €32 with wine.
- The lunch starts at 12:30 in the salone comunale.
In carnival season the Pro Loco di Calosso cooks a Sunday lunch around one dish, the gran fritto misto alla piemontese. It's the old Piedmontese mixed fry of the cold months: pieces of meat and offal, vegetables, sweet semolina, apple and amaretti, all breaded and fried and brought out on long platters. In 2026 it came after roasted peppers with bagna càuda and robiola with onion compote, with tiramisù to finish and wine on the table.
It's a village lunch at a shared table, booked by phone, and mostly local. If you're staying in the Moscato hills in February it's one of the few things on. Dates are in the table above once the Pro Loco announces them.
