Il Magico Paese di Natale — Mercatini di Natale di Asti
One of Piedmont's biggest Christmas markets: more than 130 wooden chalets take over central Asti from mid-November to Christmas, with a big wheel, an ice rink and shows for children.
Why it's special
It's grown from a market into the region's whole Christmas — 130-plus chalets, a 35-metre panoramic wheel, skating, family shows — and it spills out to Govone and San Damiano too. If you're here in December, this is where the town goes.

From the middle of November, Asti stops being a wine town and becomes a Christmas one. More than 130 wooden chalets fill the centre with crafts, local food and mulled everything, a 35-metre wheel goes up over the rooftops, and there's a skating rink for the children — twenty editions in, it's one of the largest Christmas markets in Piedmont.
It doesn't stay put, either: the programme reaches out to Govone, with its fairy-tale castle, and to San Damiano d'Asti, so a day here can easily become a small circuit. Weekends are the full experience and the full crowd; a weekday afternoon is gentler if you've kids in tow.
