Festa dell'Uva — Molare in Vendemmia

Why it's special

The whole village takes part: households compete to decorate their doorways, balconies and gardens on the theme of the harvest, so the streets themselves become the show, while the Oratorio recreates the vendemmia of the past with costumes and music.

• Households wanting to take part in the decorating contest sign up with an Oratorio leader a couple of days beforehand.

Every September, as the grapes come in across the Ovada hills, Molare holds its Festa dell'Uva — Molare in Vendemmia. It's organised by the parish Oratorio Giovanni XXIII and takes up a Sunday afternoon: from 15:00 the Oratorio courtyard fills with the music and costumes of the old-style harvest, and the merenda is frittelle and farinata.

The nicest part is outside. The organisers ask the whole village to dress up its doorways, balconies and gardens on the theme of the vendemmia and autumn, and it's run as a contest, so the walk through the streets that afternoon is part of the festa. The 2025 edition was the twentieth. In October, follow it with the Castagnata at Battagliosi.
