Pijé ën castagna! (Corsione)

An October Sunday in Corsione's Piazza IV Novembre: a small market, a cheap farmers' lunch of pasta and beans, the village's traditional apple cake and a big chestnut roast in the afternoon.

Why it's special

It's the village's autumn get-together, cooked by its own Pro Loco and mutual-aid society, and it brings back the 'turta 'd pum', Corsione's traditional apple cake.

Corsione, a hill village of about two hundred people north of Asti, keeps its autumn festa in mid-October. The Pro Loco, the village's Società Agricola Operaia and the Comune set up in Piazza IV Novembre for the day.

A small market runs from morning to late afternoon. At lunchtime the Pro Loco serves the Pranzo del Contadino, a farmers' lunch of pasta with beans and little omelettes with wine, and brings back the turta 'd pum, Corsione's traditional apple cake. In the afternoon comes the castagnata, roast chestnuts handed out until they're gone.

In late July the same square holds Corsione's patronal feast of San Cristoforo.
