Sagra del Fritto Misto alla Piemontese di Montaldo

Four late-summer evenings in the Cerrina hamlet of Montaldo built around fritto misto alla piemontese — the great mixed fry with its bagnet verde — plus homemade antipasti, agnolotti and a live orchestra each night.

Why it's special

This is the fritto misto done the full Monferrato way: the savoury-heavy mixed fry served with the obligatory bagnet verde, alongside grandmother's antipasto, carne cruda and peppers in bagna cauda. A tiny Valcerrina frazione feeds the whole valley for four nights running, and in 2026 it hit its 20th year.

A tip
  • It's in the frazione of Montaldo, up in the Val Cerrina.
  • The gastronomic stand opens each night at 19:30 and the dancing (all indoor, so rain's no problem) starts at 21:30.
  • Takeaway is possible if you book by 19:30; pizza only on the Friday.

Every year at the tail of summer the hamlet of Montaldo, up in the Val Cerrina above Cerrina Monferrato, throws itself into four evenings of frying. The Sagra del Fritto Misto alla Piemontese is the town's own supper, and it keeps the fritto misto tradition exactly as the Monferrato means it — the savoury-heavy mixed fry, cooked fresh in the pan and served with the immancabile bagnet verde, the green sauce nobody here would let you skip.

Around the fry there's the full spread: homemade antipasti — vitello tonnato, peppers in bagna cauda, carne cruda, the antipasto della nonna — then agnolotti and artisan desserts. The gastronomic stand opens at half past seven and a live orchestra takes over at half past nine, all of it indoors so the weather can't spoil it. In 2026 the sagra reached its 20th year.

It's a genuinely local night out — a small frazione feeding the whole valley — and an easy add-on to a wander through the woods and vineyards of the Monferrato Casalese. Come hungry, bring cash, and if you'd rather take the fritto home, book the takeaway by 19:30. This year's dates and the nightly bands are above.
