Sagra della Bagna Cauda di Belveglio

Belveglio's long-running bagna cauda sagra, held by the village Pro Loco over a weekend in late October: a Saturday dinner and a Sunday lunch of Belveglio-style bagna cauda with the hunchback cardoon of Nizza Monferrato and seasonal vegetables, with a garlic-free version on request.

Why it's special

A small village Pro Loco that has run its bagna cauda for close to forty editions, with the gobbo cardoon from nearby Nizza Monferrato, a Slow Food Presidium vegetable, on the plate. Bring your own fujot, the little terracotta pot with a candle underneath, if you have one.

Belveglio is a small village in the hills between Asti and Nizza Monferrato, and every autumn its Pro Loco serves bagna cauda to anyone who books a seat. The 2026 edition was the 39th.

Bagna cauda, anchovies and garlic melted slowly in oil and kept warm at the table, is eaten here 'alla belvegliese' with fresh seasonal vegetables and the cardo gobbo, the hunchback cardoon grown around Nizza Monferrato and protected as a Slow Food Presidium. A garlic-free version is made for those who ask. It comes after three starters and before cappelletti in broth and a home-made dessert, and you can bring your own fujot, the small terracotta pot with a candle beneath it, to keep the sauce hot.

There are two sittings, Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch, in the village hall in Via XX Settembre, and places go by reservation only. The same weekend, the Pro Loco of Vigliano d'Asti holds its own autumn bagna cauda a few kilometres away.
