Stramangiando
A non-competitive food-and-wine walk through the vineyards and pepper fields of Motta di Costigliole — a 14 km route of staged tastings pairing the local Peperone Quadrato and Barbera d'Asti with Piedmontese dishes, on foot or by shuttle bus.
Why it's special
The Pro Loco di Motta's autumn version of its summer walk: you amble the hills between the vines and the pepper rows, and at each stage there's a course of local cooking with a glass of the good stuff — Barbera and the rest of the local cellars. Walk the full 14 km or hop the shuttle between tappe; either way it's a whole afternoon of eating your way across the frazione.

- The 14 km route can be walked or done by shuttle bus between the food/wine stops.

Twice a year the Pro Loco di Motta turns the frazione's hills into a moving table. Stramangiando is a passeggiata enogastronomica — a non-competitive food-and-wine walk — and its autumn edition runs a 14-kilometre loop through the vineyards and the fields of the Peperone Quadrato di Motta, the square local pepper the village is known for. At each stage there's a course of Piedmontese cooking paired with a glass from the local cellars, Barbera d'Asti front and centre.
You can walk the whole route or ride the shuttle bus between the stops; departures are staggered and accompanied from half nine to half eleven. Book ahead with the Pro Loco.
It's the walking cousin of the summer Sagra del Peperone and the October Sapori d'Autunno; see Costigliole d'Asti for the rest.
