Why it's special

Nobody pays for the food. The Pro Loco cooks the polenta in a big pot on the spot and serves it to whoever turns up, and the offerings people leave are passed on to groups in Calosso. It's a village Sunday lunch more than a show, and a friendly way to meet the place.

• There's no booking and no charge, but bring cash for a donation.
• In 2025 the Comune added a book presentation in the Teatro Comunale in the afternoon.

The Polentone is one of the Pro Loco di Calosso's fixed dates. On a Sunday in spring the volunteers set up in the Salone Don Monticone on Piazza Sant'Alessandro and cook polenta in a big pot. From midday it goes out to anyone who comes, with spezzatino (meat stew), sausage, hard-boiled eggs and a glass of local Barbera. The meal ends with bugie, the thin fried Carnival pastries dusted with sugar.

The lunch is free. While it's served, people leave an offering, and the money goes to organisations in the village.

It makes a good stop if you're touring the Moscato hills in spring. Afterwards you can walk up through the lanes to the castle park for the view. See what else is on in Calosso.
