The Barbera here has been organic longer than most of the neighbours have bothered — the Durios turned the vineyards over years ago, and it shows in reds that taste of Agliano's clay rather than of new oak. Alberto and Alessandro run the place now, third generation on the same slopes above the village, and they're the sort who'll pour you a Syrah they made half as an experiment right after the flagship Barbera. The range runs from an Arneis and a Chardonnay through Grignolino d'Asti to the two serious reds: "L'Armatore", their Barbera d'Asti, and "Pragerolamo", a Nizza DOCG from the old heart of the Barbera zone.
Come by appointment — they're open most days, weekends included, and Alessandro takes his time, walking you through how each wine was made in an easy mix of Italian, English and German. Prices at the cellar door stay honest, which is half the reason people who visit once tend to drive back the next year. Call ahead, then follow the road up to Regione Montà.
