Poggio Le Coste is the Zonin family's estate in Piedmont, at Portacomaro Stazione on the north-eastern edge of Asti. It stands on the land of the old Castello del Poggio, which belonged to the Buneis family and later to the Counts Capra di Azzano. After that the land was sold off in parcels to farming families. Zonin bought the estate in 1985. It now covers about 120 hectares, 70 of them vineyards set in a natural amphitheatre between 250 and 350 metres. The wines are all from local grapes: a Barbera d'Asti, a tonneau-aged Barbera d'Asti Superiore, Grignolino d'Asti, Monferrato Dolcetto and a Moscato d'Asti from grapes grown in Costigliole d'Asti.
The wine shop is open Monday to Friday, and weekend visits are by booking. Guided tastings can be booked through the contact page or by phone. Google reviewers liked the tour, which starts with a walk through the vines, and the explanations in the cellar, and one thought the prices were very fair for the quality. Older reviews often mention Castello del Poggio, the export label Zonin sells abroad. That brand also includes wines made outside Piedmont, so it is not the same as the estate's own bottles.
