Emanuele Colombo has run La Giribaldina since 2006, up in the San Vito hamlet of Calamandrana with the family's own vineyards and woods wrapped around it. Barbera's the point here: a flagship Nizza DOCG, all Barbera, and a handful of Barbera d'Asti bottlings including the organic Caval Russ, with Moscato, a Sauvignon and a rosato rounding things out.

Come for a cellar tour and a seated tasting — five or six wines with snacks from the local bakery — and if you'd rather not drive off after, there are rooms at the farmhouse B&B, the Foresteria. Book the tasting or a bed through the winery; Italian and English are both fine.
