Cadgal means "house of the rooster," and it's Moscato that drives the place — a Piedmont producer split across two estates: Tenuta Valdivilla over in the Langhe at Santo Stefano Belbo, and Tenuta La Cova here in Calamandrana, sat between Nizza Monferrato and Canelli. La Cova runs to 25 hectares, nine of them vineyard and the rest hazelnut orchard and woodland, right in prime Barbera country in the heart of the Alto Monferrato.

What the house is known for is bottle-aged Moscato d'Asti and Canelli DOCG — labels like Lumine, Vite Vecchia and Sant'Ilario — with Asti Spumante and Barbera d'Asti too, all farmed regeneratively. Both estates work as "Wine Country Houses," so you can settle in for a long tasting or stay the night; request a visit online, in Italian or English.
