Dezzani is the big name in Cocconato wine. Founded in 1934, the house started out selling grapes locally, and under Romolo Dezzani it grew into a brand known across Italy and then abroad. Today it is run by the Rocca family together with the Villa Rivalta co-operative, whose member growers farm around 1,000 hectares in the Monferrato and the Langhe, and the wines are sold in some 50 countries. The catalogue is long. It runs from Barbera d'Asti and Nizza to Barolo, Barbaresco, Gavi, Roero Arneis, Ruchè, Moscato d'Asti, Asti and Alta Langa. The Barbera Superiore 'Gli Scaglioni', the Albarossa 'Assioma' and the Barbera passito 'Gattone' are among the more distinctive bottles.
Dezzani is a working winery rather than a visitor estate. The Wine Boutique at the cellar on Corso Pinin Giachino sells the range on weekdays, and the website doesn't advertise a regular tasting programme. One reviewer describes a Sunday event with a barrel-cellar tour and a Barbera tasting, so it's worth watching their social channels. Romolo's son Luigi, an oenologist, now makes wine with his wife Cecilia Zucca at Poggio Ridente on the same road, which does run tastings.
