Dante and Michelina planted the first Barbera and Bonarda here in 1963, up a bricco — a hilltop — above Costigliole d'Asti, and their grandson Andrea now farms it the same unfussy, chemical-free way. The wines carry dialect names, Garbà, Gargoj, Dantina and Sachert, made in small numbers and mostly sold to people who make the climb.
And it is a climb — a few hairpins up to a tasting room with the hills falling away below. Andrea pours his reds and whites, fires up the grill for lunch if you've booked it, and lets the dogs keep you company; some afternoons there's even yoga among the vines. Open Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays. Ring ahead and bring a little time.
