The Dogliottis have grown Barbera and Moscato on these Costigliole hills since the early 1900s — Angelo 'Gele' started it, it passed to another Angelo, and his son Enrico now works the twenty-one hectares. The list is deep for a family cellar: Nizza DOCG at the top, Barbera d'Asti in a couple of guises, then Monferrato Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Grignolino, a Moscato d'Asti, a Sauvignon and an Alta Langa sparkler.

Book ahead and Angelo, Enrico or Giulia will run you through the range — often with cured meats, cheese and a plate of plin, the little Piemontese ravioli. English is no problem. Every Google reviewer so far has left five stars, which for a cellar this unshowy tells you plenty; taste the Nizza and the Barbera Superiore and you'll see what they mean.
