The vineyard behind Cascina Vigna once belonged to Marquis Filippo Asinari, who planted a collection vineyard here back in the 1740s; the Gozzelino family took it on in the early 1900s, and Stefano, his father Vincenzo and the rest still work the seven hectares today. It's proper Barbera country — the Asti DOCG and its Superiore, plus a Barbera del Monferrato — rounded out with a Monferrato Nebbiolo and Dolcetto, a Freisa, a little Merlot and a Moscato for the sweet tooth.
You can book a cellar visit with a tasting, and from the rows you look straight across to the castle of Costigliole; Stefano speaks good English, so your Italian needn't be up to much. Google visitors give it 4.9, and across 832 Vivino ratings it settles around 3.8. Ring +39 0141 966620 first — this is a working family farm, not a walk-in bar, and the welcome's warmer for the call.
