Brothers Giuseppe and Mauro Gozzelino set up Sciorio in the 1990s, carrying on four generations of family winemaking from the cascina that gives the estate its name, up on the Costigliole hills. Barbera is the backbone — the Asti DOCG and a barrique-aged Superiore, the "kingdom of Barbera in barrel" as one regular put it — alongside a Monferrato Rosso and, less usual here, a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon.

They take visitors for tastings; the degustazioni page on sciorio.com books them, and the site's in English as well as Italian, so your Italian doesn't need to be good. Google's small crowd of visitors give it a straight five, and across 616 Vivino ratings it holds a steady 3.9. Call +39 339 203 1193 to fix a time.
