Vittorio pours the Grignolino first, because it's the grape his family has bet on since 1919 and he wants you to take it seriously. Five generations in, Sulin still works the hills above Grazzano Badoglio in Barbera, Grignolino and Chardonnay, plus two varieties you'll rarely meet elsewhere — the white Baratuciat and the red Slarina, both worth asking about. The Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese is the one that keeps winning glasses from Gambero Rosso, and it earns them.

Visits and tastings are the whole point here, so book ahead: you'll get the bottling line, the cellar, and in summer a table set out among the vines. The farming is SQNPI-certified sustainable, not a marketing line, and the welcome — English is no trouble — is the kind people drive back for year after year. Bring a case; regulars always leave with more than they planned.
