Bernardo planted the first vines here in 1900; it took until the 1980s for his son Bruno Pierluigi to stop selling the grapes off and start making the wine himself. That wine is Barbera — a single-minded Barbera d'Asti called Capri that one German visitor clocked at 14.5% and wrote back to thank them for. Hazelnuts and olives grow on the estate too, but the Barbera is the reason to come.

Tastings and cellar visits run by reservation — they've welcomed guests since 2017 — and someone will happily switch to English. It's a small family operation on the ridge at Grazzano Badoglio, so call ahead rather than turning up, and plan to walk out with a few bottles.
