This is cooperative wine in the best sense. The Cantina Sociale di Mombaruzzo was founded in 1887, the first grower association in Piemonte, and Tre Secoli grew out of its merger with a neighbouring co-op — hence the "three centuries" in the name. Hundreds of member growers feed it, so the shelves run wide: Moscato d'Asti, Barbera up to Nizza DOCG, Brachetto d'Acqui, spumanti and grappa, right down to bag-in-box for the everyday table.
The shop is kept like a proper store, well stocked and fairly priced, and the staff will sit you down for a tasting and steer you toward what suits you — regulars single out the Cortese and the Barbera, and come back at Christmas to stock up. It's honest, well-priced wine from people who've been at it since before Italy had fully finished becoming Italy.
