Seven generations of the Berta family have worked the San Michele hill, right on the line where Monferrato gives way to the Langhe. The vineyards face the sun in an amphitheatre curve and give reds from Barbera, Dolcetto and Brachetto and whites from Cortese and Moscato; the flagships are Nizza DOCG bottlings like La Berta and the Heritage Riserva.
Book through the website and they'll open the cellar for a tasting, and in season you can take a picnic out among the rows. Visitors come back to two things above all: the family's welcome and where they get to drink it.
