The winery carries the name of Armando Chiappone, born in 1908, and it's now his great-grandson Daniele who makes the wine. The vines sit on one of the sunniest hillsides in Nizza Monferrato, mostly Barbera, with one old parcel of roughly sixty-year-old vines set aside for the Nizza. The range is short and pointed: the Nizza DOCG 'Ru', the Barbera d'Asti 'Brentura' and the Freisa 'Sanpedra'.
Daniele's one of the growers people credit with pushing local Barbera up a level and helping bring the Nizza DOCG into being. Visits and tastings are by appointment, and the scores visitors leave are about as high as they get.
