AcquiTeatro — theatre season at the Teatro Ariston, Acqui Terme

Acqui Terme's winter prose season: seven or eight evening shows between January and March at the Cinema Teatro Ariston, mostly comedy and new Italian plays with well-known touring actors, sold by subscription or single ticket.

Why it's special

The Ariston is a working town cinema that turns into a playhouse for the season, so you get names from the national touring circuit (Ale & Franz, Alessandro Bergonzoni, Tullio Solenghi and Natalino Balasso in recent years) in a small spa town, at the price of a night out in the provinces.

AcquiTeatro is the winter prose season of Acqui Terme. It is put on at the Cinema Teatro Ariston in Piazza Matteotti, the town's cinema, by the Dianorama company with artistic director Clara Costanzo, and the Comune backs it with patronage and funding.

The line-up leans towards comedy and new Italian plays with actors off the national touring circuit. Recent seasons brought Ale & Franz twice, Alessandro Bergonzoni, Tullio Solenghi, Natalino Balasso and Carrozzeria Orfeo. There are usually seven or eight shows between January and March, all at 21:00, and they're sold as a subscription with a fixed seat or as single tickets. The season is normally presented in December, when single tickets go on sale at the Ariston box office and on webtic.it.

The Ariston is a few minutes' walk from Piazza Italia and La Bollente, so a show fits well after dinner in the old town. The Ariston also hosts the award ceremony of the Premio Acqui Storia each October.
