Barbera & Bollito del Bue Grasso at Tenuta Ronzano
A December weekend at the Tenuta Ronzano winery in Costigliole d'Asti: a plate of bollito from fattened ox with the estate's Barbera, served in the tasting room in five sittings a day, from six in the morning to eight in the evening.
Why it's special
It's the winery's nod to the historic Fiera del Bue Grasso in Carrù: one plate of boiled fattened ox and the Barbera that grows on Ronzano's own hills, in a small tasting room rather than a fair crowd. The sittings start at 6:00, so you can have bollito for breakfast.

For one weekend in December, Tenuta Ronzano, a family winery under the Bricco Lù hill in Costigliole d'Asti, turns its tasting room over to bollito. The idea comes from the Fiera del Bue Grasso in Carrù, the historic December fair of fattened oxen, where boiled meat is the centre of the table. Here it's one plate of bollito del bue grasso with a glass of the estate's Barbera.
There are five sittings each day, starting at six in the morning and ending at eight at night, so you can make it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Places are limited and it has to be booked. If you want the full fair rather than a quiet table, Moncalvo holds its own Fiera del Bue Grasso earlier in the month. Costigliole's castle has held its Christmas market on mid-December weekends in recent years (13–14 December in 2025).
