Canelli in Teatro
Canelli's winter stage season at the Teatro Balbo, run by the Fondazione Egri dance centre. Contemporary dance, prose, music and shadow theatre play on single evenings from October to May, with a few family matinées.
Why it's special
It's a dance-led programme, rare for a small town: international companies (from France and North Macedonia in 2026/27) alongside EgriBiancoDanza's own productions, in a historic town theatre. A side strand, 'Le isole del gesto', takes performances into the deconsecrated Chiesa di San Rocco.

Canelli in Teatro is the town's stage season at the Teatro Balbo, and it leans towards dance. The Fondazione Egri, a national dance centre, programmes it through its IPUNTIDANZA network with Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo. That means touring companies from France or North Macedonia on one night and the resident EgriBiancoDanza on the next, with prose, music and shadow theatre in between.
Shows play one evening each, roughly monthly, from October through spring. The Sunday-afternoon family pieces (a Pinocchio, a Nutcracker) are an easy way in with children. A side strand, Le isole del gesto, moves smaller performances into the deconsecrated Chiesa di San Rocco and other spaces in town. In summer the season continues outdoors as Canelli in Teatro Summer.
Make an evening of it with dinner in Canelli before the show. Each season's full cartellone is listed above.
