Casale Città Aperta
Casale's recurring 'open city' days, when the Castello del Monferrato, the civic museums, the Synagogue and other monuments open together with guided visits, exhibitions and events — a monthly excuse to see the town's insides.
Why it's special
Several of Casale's best sites keep limited hours, so a coordinated open weekend is the easy way to get into the castle, the museums and the Jewish quarter in one go, often with a guide.
- It usually runs on the Saturday and Sunday of the antiques-market weekend (the second Sunday of the month).
- Winter hours, from late October: Saturday 15:00–17:30, Sunday 10:00–12:30 and 15:00–17:30; summer hours, Saturday 15:30–18:30, Sunday 10:00–12:30 and 15:30–18:30.
- The sites usually open are Santa Caterina, the Teatro Municipale, the Torre Civica, the Cathedral of Sant'Evasio, San Domenico, the Castello, Palazzo Municipale and San Paolo.
- On the Sunday a free guided walk of the monuments, run by the Associazione Orizzonte Casale, leaves at 15:00 in winter (15:30 in summer) from the tourist kiosk in Piazza Castello, opposite the Teatro Municipale.
- The Museo Civico is free that weekend, and the Duomo treasury opens 14:30–17:00.

"Casale Città Aperta" is the city's rolling programme of open days, when monuments that otherwise keep short or by-appointment hours throw their doors open together — the star-shaped Castello del Monferrato, the civic museums, the gilded Synagogue and its Jewish museum, and others — usually with guided visits and a temporary show or two.
It's the simplest way to see the inside of Casale in a single day rather than chasing separate opening hours. The line-up shifts month to month, so check the comune's programme for the current weekend and whether any of the guided visits want booking ahead.
