Festa Patronale di Santa Maria Maddalena (Mombaruzzo)

Mombaruzzo keeps its patron saint's day on 22 July, the feast of Saint Mary Magdalene, the parish church's namesake up in the old Borgo Castello.

Why it's special

It's the town's own day: a working Monferrato hilltop honouring the saint its parish church is named for, with the celebration spilling into the streets of the Borgo Castello over the nearest weekend.

Programme · 2026

22 July 2026

The patronal feast of Saint Mary Magdalene falls on Wednesday 22 July 2026, the day the parish church up in the Borgo Castello celebrates its namesake. Around the feast day the town opens the old borgo for visits, and the celebration carries into the nearest weekend. Check comune.mombaruzzo.at.it nearer the date for that year's Mass times, concerts and dinners.

A tip
  • Confirm the year's programme on comune.mombaruzzo.at.it or the Comune di Mombaruzzo Facebook page before you set out — 22 July is fixed, but the concerts, dinners and Borgo Castello openings shift to the closest weekend.

Every town in these hills has its saint, and Mombaruzzo's is Mary Magdalene. The parish church up in the Borgo Castello carries her name, and 22 July is her feast — the one fixed point on the calendar the town keeps for itself rather than for visitors.

Don't expect the scale of the Percorsi del Gusto in the same borgo a week earlier. This is the older, quieter observance: a Mass, the church dressed for its patron, and the streets of the castle quarter opened up over the nearest weekend. What's on any given year — a concert, a shared dinner, a guided walk through Palazzo Pallavicini — the Comune posts closer to the date, so check before you drive up.

The town sits in the Basso Monferrato between Nizza and the Belbo, better known for its soft amaretti and for the grappa from Berta out at Casalotto. The patron's day is when it's most itself.
