Why it's special

The truffles on the stalls are selected and checked one by one by the Associazione Trifulau Astigiani e Monferrini (A.T.A.M.), the hunters' own association, so you buy a certified white truffle from the people who dig it up. The fair is the heart of 'I Gioielli del Territorio', the city's run of food weekends in a heated tent in Piazza Alfieri, next to the Christmas market. In 2026 it moves to December and closes 'Terre del Bianco', a new circuit of nine truffle fairs in the province that opens at Montiglio Monferrato in early October.

Moved from November to December this year, as the closing fair of 'Terre del Bianco', the circuit of nine truffle fairs in the province of Asti that runs from 4 October (Montiglio Monferrato) to 13 December (Asti).

• The truffle market runs all day on both days (10:00–20:00 in 2023 and 2025), and the stalls of A.T.A.M.
• hunters are where to buy: each truffle has been checked before it goes on sale.
• Come on the Sunday for the full fair: the food and wine market fills the streets of the old centre from dawn to dusk, and the prizes for the best single truffle and the best truffle dish are handed out at 16:30.
• The twin-town market under the Portici Anfossi brings cheeses, sweets and crafts from Valence in France and Biberach in Germany.
• The 'I Gioielli del Territorio' tent stays open every weekend until the week before Christmas, with truffle dishes, Asti wines and panettone with zabaione, so you can still taste truffle after the fair weekend.

Asti is the capital of a province where the white truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico) is hunted every autumn, and the city's national truffle fair is the weekend when the hunters, the trifulau, bring their finds into town. The truffles are sold on the stalls of the Associazione Trifulau Astigiani e Monferrini (A.T.A.M.), whose experts check each one before it goes on sale. On the Sunday afternoon the same association judges the best single truffle and the best truffle dish.

Around the truffle market the old centre fills with food. On the Sunday, stalls of local cheeses, salumi, hazelnut sweets and the wines of the Langhe, Monferrato and Roero line the streets. Under the Portici Anfossi in Piazza Alfieri, a small market brings products from Valence and Biberach, Asti's twin towns.

The fair used to take place in Piazza San Secondo, in front of the town hall. In 2025 it moved to a heated tent in Piazza Alfieri as the centrepiece of 'I Gioielli del Territorio', six weekends of truffle dishes, wine tastings and local sweets set up next to the city's Christmas market, Il Magico Paese di Natale. In 2026 the fair moves to mid-December, as the last date of 'Terre del Bianco', the new circuit that links nine truffle fairs across the province of Asti.
