Luna Park di Carnevale di Asti
Asti's carnival funfair: for about three weeks in February, some sixty rides, sweet stalls, shooting galleries and food stands fill Piazza Campo del Palio, open every afternoon and, at most rides, into the evening.
Why it's special
It's one of the city's two yearly funfairs (the other comes for the feast of San Secondo in May) and the longest: around sixty attractions for about three weeks. Piazza Campo del Palio is a short walk from Piazza Alfieri, so it's an easy add-on to a day in town with children during the carnival holidays.
Programme · 2026
Piazza Campo del Palio, with the rides set out in an L along the south and east sides so the square can still host the market.
- Every ride must open from 15:00 to 19:00, weekdays and holidays alike; many also open from 10:30 and stay open until 23:00, so weekend evenings are the liveliest.
- On Wednesday and Saturday mornings the funfair shares the square with the city market, so parking around Piazza Campo del Palio is tight on those days.
- The council bans amplified music on the site, so it's quieter than most funfairs.
Every winter the travelling showmen bring Asti's carnival funfair, the Luna Park di Carnevale, to Piazza Campo del Palio. For about three weeks in February the big square, normally a car park and the site of the city market, fills with rides for children and adults, roundabouts, sweet stalls, shooting galleries and a few food stands.
The rides open every afternoon from 15:00 to 19:00, and many stay open from mid-morning until 23:00, so it works for an after-school visit as well as a weekend evening. The city doesn't allow amplified music, so it's calmer than most funfairs. On Wednesday and Saturday mornings the stalls of the weekly market share the square.
The funfair comes back to the same square in early May for the feast of the city's patron saint, the Festa di San Secondo, for about ten days. Piazza Campo del Palio is a few minutes' walk from Piazza Alfieri and the old centre of Asti.
