Natale a Canelli

Canelli's December programme, 'Dicembre in festa': a craft Christmas market in the Salone Riccadonna, the town band's Christmas concert and a gospel night at the Teatro Balbo, and Father Christmas afternoons for children in Piazza Cavour.

Why it's special

It's a home-grown Christmas rather than a tourist market. The Banda Musicale Città di Canelli plays its traditional Christmas-greetings concert, Canelli's communities offer a taste of their typical sweets at the gospel night, and there's farinata in the piazza.

A tip
  • The market is in the Salone Riccadonna on Corso Libertà 25.
  • The concerts at the Teatro Balbo have been free (booking appreciated for the gospel night).
  • Piazza Cavour is the place for the children's afternoons.

In December Canelli puts together its own Christmas, Dicembre in festa: a few weeks of small events rather than one big market. The Intrecci 33 association fills the Salone Riccadonna on Corso Libertà with a craft Christmas market over two weekends. The museum and library run children's workshops, and Piazza Cavour hosts afternoons with Father Christmas, games and farinata.

The evenings move to the Teatro Balbo. The Banda Musicale Città di Canelli plays its traditional Christmas-greetings concert, and a gospel night opens with Canelli's communities offering a taste of their typical sweets as a Christmas greeting.

It's aimed at the town itself, which is part of its charm. The programme for each December is listed above once it's published.
