Why it's special

Carpione, fried food laid down in a vinegar marinade and eaten cold, is Piedmont's classic hot-weather dish, and this one is named after the threshers of the summer wheat harvest. In Colcavagno it is the centrepiece of a small frazione festa with free entry, bouncy castles for the children and a different style of music each night.

4th edition, organised by the Pro Loco of Colcavagno for the frazione's patronal feast. Every evening the carpione misto (chicken, egg, courgettes and salmon trout), plus the colcaburger, agnolotti and other dishes. Free entry; bouncy castles for children.

• Colcavagno is one of the three old comuni that merged to form Montiglio Monferrato in 1998.

Colcavagno was a comune of its own until 1998, when it merged with Montiglio and Scandeluzza to form Montiglio Monferrato. It keeps its own Pro Loco, which runs the frazione's patronal festa at the start of July. Since 2023 the festa has been built around the carpionata del trebbiatore, the thresher's carpione.

Carpione is how Piedmont eats in summer: food is fried, then laid in a vinegar marinade and eaten cold. Colcavagno's version is a mixed plate of chicken, egg, courgettes and salmon trout. The Pro Loco had already cooked it for the comune's food walk in 2022 before giving it a sagra of its own. The stand also serves agnolotti, other local dishes and a 'colcaburger'.

Each of the three evenings has its own music: a 90s dance night, a rock night with a Vasco Rossi tribute band, and liscio for the Sunday. Entry is free, and there are bouncy castles for the children.
