Stagione Teatrale del Teatro Alfieri di Asti
Asti's winter theatre season at the Teatro Alfieri, run by the Comune with the Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo: about twenty evenings of prose, music, dance and opera from mid-October to the end of April, with touring companies and well-known Italian actors.
Why it's special
The Alfieri is Asti's city theatre, a horseshoe of boxes in the historic centre, and its season brings the big names of Italian touring theatre to a provincial town at low prices: in 2026/27 Marco Paolini, Gioele Dix, Ascanio Celestini, Franco Branciaroli in Pirandello, Tullio Solenghi in Goldoni and a full Aida. A good reason to spend a winter evening in Asti after dinner in the old town.

The Teatro Alfieri is Asti's city theatre, a horseshoe auditorium with tiers of boxes in the historic centre, named after the city's great dramatist Vittorio Alfieri. From October to April it hosts a season put together by the Comune with the Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo, the regional body that circulates theatre, dance and music around Piedmont's stages.
The 2026/27 season opened on 16 October with Marco Paolini's work-in-progress on the river Po, and runs to the end of April. The prose strand mixes classics (Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Pirandello, Goldoni, Tennessee Williams, Yasmina Reza) with new writing, and the 'Altri percorsi' strand adds songs, narrative theatre and dance, from Giorgio Conte to Ascanio Celestini and the Maltese national dance company. Outside the subscription come Paolini's opening night and a full staging of Verdi's Aida in February. The theatre's director describes the prices as among the lowest of any comparable theatre, and shows start at 21:00, which leaves time for dinner in the old town first.
The Alfieri also hosts Asti's New Year's Day concert and, in June, part of the AstiTeatro festival.
