Cittadella of Alessandria guided tour

A star-shaped fortress begun in 1732, the Cittadella is one of the best-preserved 18th-century fortifications in Europe. Volunteers lead the tours — usually on a Sunday, about 90 minutes — walking the ramparts, the bastions and the underground galleries dug in the Napoleonic era. Openings hang on who's free to guide, so check the current schedule locally before making the trip.
