Mercato settimanale di Casale Monferrato

Tuesday and Friday mornings, about 07:30–13:00: around 200 stalls of food, clothing and household goods fill Piazza Castello.

Why it's special

Over 150 years old and, since December 2024, on Piedmont's official list of markets of historic and traditional value. It began in the 1800s in what is now Piazza Mazzini before moving to the larger Piazza Castello.

A tip
  • Piazza Castello is a car park on other days, but its white bays are tow-away from 06:00 to 16:00 on market days.
  • The comune points drivers to the Mercato Pavia car park and the former Cofi area (entrance from Via Sant'Anna).

Casale Monferrato holds its market in Piazza Castello every Tuesday and Friday morning. The comune puts it at about 200 stalls (43 food, 149 non-food and 8 farmers), open from about 07:30 to 13:00.

It's an old market. It started in the 1800s in Piazza Carlo Alberto, now Piazza Mazzini, and moved to Piazza Castello after an 1872 newspaper article called for a bigger site. In December 2024 the Region added it to its list of markets of historic and traditional value, alongside fifteen others. It draws shoppers from more than 40 surrounding comuni.

Three times a year, in April, August and November, the market grows into a larger fiera-mercato. Holidays move the dates: the Friday markets that fall on 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027 are brought forward to Thursday 24 and Thursday 31 December.

Casale also has a monthly antiques market (second Sunday) and the Il Paniere organic market (third Saturday).
