Sua Maestà il Bollito Misto – Pro Loco di Montemagno
The Pro Loco di Montemagno's late-winter bollito: a Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch in the village oratorio, with a full Piedmontese menu built around a great bollito misto with green bagnetto and red sauce.
Why it's special
Bollito misto, the platter of boiled meats with its sauces, is the classic Piedmontese winter Sunday dish, and here it comes as a village meal at a fixed price, cooked by the volunteers who also run the summer festa in the castle park and the May bread festival, Pane al Pane. The Pro Loco calls it its customary 'bollito di Bue Grasso'.

Late in the winter the Pro Loco of Montemagno Monferrato sets the tables in the parish oratorio for bollito misto, the Piedmontese platter of boiled meats. The menu runs through the classics: peppers with bagna cauda, little bites of carne cruda and vitello tonnato to start, then the big bollito with its green bagnetto and the red sauce, cappelletti in the broth, and crème caramel to finish, with wine and coffee included.
It's served twice, on the Saturday evening and the Sunday lunchtime, and you book by phone. The same volunteers run the village's autumn bagna cauda, the bread festival Pane al Pane in May and the August festa in the castle park.
