The giostre are how Nizza knows the San Carlo fair has come round again. The rides are open every day, so families can pair them with the fair's market, the cardo gobbo and bagna cauda stands and the white truffle fair.

Rides for the 509th Fiera di San Carlo in Piazza Garibaldi, open every day, Halloween-themed this year.

• Go on fair Sunday for the full show: eat bagna cauda and cardo gobbo in Piazza Martiri di Alessandria, then walk over to Piazza Garibaldi for the rides.
• Piazza Garibaldi is normally a car park, so while the luna park is up, park at the edges of town and walk in.

When the Fiera di San Carlo comes round at the start of November, the travelling showmen set up their rides in Piazza Garibaldi, the big square by the Foro Boario. It's a classic Italian luna park, a travelling funfair with rides for small children and for teenagers (in 2019 the press counted about twenty attractions), and it runs every day for about ten days while the fair happens around it.

The fair itself is one of the oldest in Piedmont, held since the 16th century. On fair Sunday the whole centre of Nizza Monferrato turns into a market, the Pro Loco serves cardo gobbo with bagna cauda in Piazza Martiri di Alessandria, and the white truffle fair fills the gardens of Palazzo Crova.

The rides came in 2023 (open until 6 November) and 2024 (27 October to 4 November), and they're back in 2026 from 30 October to 8 November. In 2026 every ride costs €2 on the opening and closing days. Nizza gets a second, spring luna park in the same square for the Fiera del Santo Cristo in April.

Getting there: Piazza Garibaldi is a short walk from the historic centre. The square is normally one of Nizza's main car parks, so while the rides are up, park around the edges of town.
